Ever wondered by Bossa Nova makes you tap and swing......

Well you have to realise that sometimes less is more and that rhythm is not so much about the on beats but more about the off-beats. (The beats that happen in between the on ones!)

Have a look at Antonio Carlos Jobim, Sergio Mendes and more. All amazing musicians that any budding Muso MUST listen to! Yes some of the sounds and production may sound dated but that is not the point!

Sergio Mendes even changes the timing between 3/4 and 4/4 on his rendition of Fool on the hill by the Beatles. Do not underestimate the power of this music and other musicians who are able to broaden their work.

Have a listen:

To be honest Jobim's Wave is an absolute classic but there are more popular ones like Ipanema.

Lift music NO!! Yes my background is Jazz but you really need to listen hard to what is happening with the music here. Frankly its a masterpiece.

So if you want more look at Brazil 66 / 77, Stan Getz and more from Sergio Mendes. Yes this music leans towards Jazz but it will develop your ear and understanding. Have in mind that Sergio Mendes has written film score and continues to write and advise on current film and media projects.

Enjoy!!
